The First Wave and The Last Wave are from “Gilding The Cross – A Tribute to Year of The Veteran” 2005.

All of the pictures in this collection had a cross orientation.

The first and last wave pieces were created around The Cross Lorraine – the symbol that the French Resistance used. It is an upright crossed with a short top bar and a longer lower bar.  In the First Wave, the soldiers, our stars, (the starfish shells) are treading swiftly as they cross the beach, hence the lighter footprint.  In the Last Wave they are tramping through water bloodied by their fallen comrades…the fallen angel wing shells.  (1,200 casualties 1 in 18).
