“Black is the New White” or “Long Black / Flat White”
This whole series will be made with little buildings of some sort or other…
I started the series last summer, but broke my wrist just before finishing “Steamer”…which I posted on July 6 after doing the final touches
The idea for this piece came from observations during our bike rides around and about our area of The South Shore. What we noticed was this: how many of the century old homes, traditionally painted boring white…that’s certainly how I see them today…are getting a face lift and being painted black.
And the colour scheme coincides with Kiwi coffee names, long black and flat white.
Now we are seeing a lot of “Painted Ladies” in our area, the term coined for all of the colourfully painted houses in San Francisco……another cup!…I’ll have to find a coffee name to match
The brain coral, which was just as you see it, black and white, I picked up on a beach at Water Cay, Jumentos, Bahamas about 4 years ago.
