Christened with grape juice, The Bluenose was launched from her Smith & Rhuland Shipyard slip in 1921.  She was a born winner, capturing the hearts of people the world over, as the fastest racing, fishing schooner of her time.

Painted with 12 coats of enamel, the goldwork decoration on the lid of the emu egg was taken from the original bow carving.  Enhanced with much heavier lines, (reduced to this size they would have been pencil thin) this section of the design was aft of the hawse plate.

As for the schooner herself, the sails are made of leather with thread glued on for the seams and coated with 24 karat cold leaf.  The hull is carved from balsa wood with 4 coats of enamel.  Her spars and rigging are created with different types and sizes of 2% gold metal threads.

Silver plate metal threads and Swarovski Crystal form the water.
