Most of the imposing widow’s walks were built in the by-gone era of square rigger ships, when the mansions of wealthy captains and ship owners overlooked their home port. Perhaps not used as much during this 1900-1940 time span, their symbolism is there for all to reflect on: generations of wives, at home with hope in their hearts…. waiting.
