One cannot give an account of the Grand Bank fishing era without acknowledging the photographers who recorded their history. As a tribute to Wallace MacAskill, ‘Port Tack’ was adapted from his famous photo ‘Starboard Lookout”. To take the picture, MacAskill had the crew of the Bluenose lash him to a deck cabin, as the seas were running high and the waves were crashing over her rails. In the photo, the dories were stacked on the deck.
